The Gryphons Hall of Fame class of 2024 has been announced.

One of this country’s most decorated university athletes, national wrestling champions and a Gryphons basketball coaching legend are among those who will take their place in the Gryphon Athletics Hall of Fame this year.

Four athletes, four teams and a builder will be honoured as part of the class of 2024 on June 21.

Two of the athletes won national championships in wrestling.

Peter Domarchuk won two U SPORTS – then known as the Canadian Intercollegiate Athletics Union (CIAU) – titles in 1983 and 1984 in the 68kg weight class, going undefeated in both years, and was part of Guelph’s three-peat of national team titles from 1981 to 1983.

He was also an alternate for Canada’s Olympic wrestling team in 1984.

Kelsey Gsell was a four-time OUA champion, and won an OUA medal in all five years she competed for the Gryphons between 2011 and 2015.

She also went on to win a U SPORTS championship in 2014, a pair of U SPORTS silver medals in 2013 and 2015 and a bronze in 2012.

The other two athletes garnered their accolades through the cross-country team.

Laura Moulton was part of two women’s cross-country team national champions in 2005-06 and 2006-07. She also won individual medals in those two years (bronze in 2005-06, silver in 2006-07)., among her many accomplishments.

Ross Proudfoot filled his trophy cabinet throughout his time with the Gryphons.

A 19-time national medallist between 2010-11 and 2014-15, he was part of four CIS team cross-country championships, and was also named the CIS cross-country MVP in 2014.

Proudfoot went undefeated in his final year of competition, both in cross-country and track and field, and capped his career off with the BLG Award in 2015, named the top male athlete in Canadian Interuniversity Sport.

Angela Orton will go into the hall as a builder. Orton spent 20 years as a coach with the women’s basketball program between 1990 and 2010.

She won four west division coach of the year awards, OUA coach of the year in 2005 and led the Gryphons to an OUA championship in 2005.

Orton also played a key part in administration at Gryphon Athletics, taking on a number of roles behind the scenes.

That OUA championship squad of 2005 is one of four teams entering the hall.

The team led the OUA with a 19-3 record and went on to win the program’s first provincial title in 25 years.

The 2011 women’s rugby team will also get its recognition. The OUA and CIS champions of that year, the Gryphons went undefeated along the way. Their OUA title was the team’s fourth in a row, while the national title was the program’s first since 1998.

The men’s cross-country teams of 1999 to 2002 will be recognized for their accomplishments the school says laid “the foundation” for the most successful men’s cross-country program in the country.

The national title in 1999 was the program’s first in 30 years, but it was the first of four consecutive titles and first of 14 titles in 19 seasons.

The fourth team induction goes back about 60 years, to the 1961 and 1965 editions of the men’s curling team. Those two years, the curling teams would win OUA titles.
