Neighbourhood gets together to help Guelph Food Bank

Over 600 kg of food and $7,500 in cash donated in just 90 minutes at Village by the Arboretum

Last Tuesday, June 16, the Village by the Arboretum Residents Association and social committee  jointly held a “Hunger Hurts” one-day food drive in support of the Guelph Food Bank.

Over 45 volunteers from the Village went porch to porch collecting nonperishable food items and money to donate to the food bank. Over 600 kg of food was collected in addition to $7,500 in cash donations in just 90 minutes.

Pauline Cripps, the Guelph food bank administrator said that  “it came at a critical time for us because donations are slow in the summer but the need continues.“

Further, she added, “for every dollar donated, we can provide three meals for someone through supporting affiliations."

Organizers of the event said that they hope that it spurs other neighbourhoods in Guelph into organizing their own food drives.
