GuelphToday received the following letter from reader Mary Rose Lord regarding bus ads related to abortion:

I am writing in response to the complaint made by Fiona Douglas to the Ad Standards Council, regarding an ad posted by Guelph and Area Right to Life on a city bus, reported in Guelph Today on Feb. 19, 2020.

I felt a grave injustice creep into my soul on the side of freedom of speech and the unborn. The decision made by Ad Standards Council of Canada deeming the advertisement on a Guelph city bus as misleading was made solely on the word “human”. I see it as a sad reflection on the value of life.

It is unfortunate that in order to make abortion justifiable, one only needs to decide that a human being is only human after birth and therefore of no worth before then.

The womb is meant to be a sanctuary, a place of protection for growth and maturation.

Ms. Douglas found the ad offensive since, she states “it could make other people question what is right for them” when in reality the ad was meant to make one think about the ultimate decision made on behalf of another life, one without a voice. Every life is a gift and every life has purpose.

The decision to choose abortion is often made out of fear or inconvenience, yet often results in a lifetime of guilt, regret and mental anguish for women left to live with the decision made. This ad is not about judgement or offence; it is about protecting the right to life. Currently, in Canada, there are no abortion laws, therefore no protection for the unborn. The Guelph and Area Right to Life and those who support them are a voice for the unborn children who have no say.

I encourage anyone to watch the documentary “Unplanned” to learn the truth behind an abortion procedure. It is human nature to dismiss that which we do not see nor understand and neither have a relationship with. I believe many would have a change of heart if they saw the tiny life, so early formed within the womb: trying so desperately to cling to life. A life created to fulfill its’ purpose and potential.
