GuelphToday received the following letter to the editor from Jennifer Bailey regarding current grocery costs:

Just wondering why the government is spending money on statistics about alcohol consumption. Drinking is a personal choice and it's doubtful that a study will change that for most.

My great grandfather, who died at 92, and who maintained his nightly routine of a dram of whisky, would strongly disagree with the results.

Why aren't we spending that money on studying the number of people who are having to go without nutritious food because of disgusting corporate greed. I have no time for a person like Galen Weston (Loblaws), who's net worth, yes NET worth is $7.6 billion. Shame. We have seniors going hungry here!

The last study performed on hunger in Canada was in 2018. I'll bet the numbers are substantially different now.

Food is rotting in containers at the terminal because people aren't buying it. It gets donated half rotten to non profit organizations. Food gets donated from certain grocers that is actually inedible. Sandwiches that the meat has turned green. Salads that I would only compost. Plus it's over packaged and it gets thrown in the garbage like that, plastic and all. It is my understanding that these donors get a tax break on donations.
