NEWS RELEASE
ART NOT SHAME
************************
Art Not Shame’s community quiltmaking series has been going strong for seven weeks. They have had over 35 participants gather at several Guelph neighbourhood groups and it’s not over yet!

Presented by Art Not Shame, the Community Fabric project has been a free community-arts series in which participants have worked together to create a community quilt. Each week community members have explored mark-making through textiles as local artist facilitators guide them through teachings around appliqué, embroidery, hand-sewing, printmaking, and quilting. The last two sessions will focus on assembling the squares of the quilt and will take place May 2 and 8 from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. at the Guelph Civic Museum.

“We are very excited for these last two sessions and invite anyone who is interested in sewing and quiltmaking to come out and help in the process of putting this tapestry together,” says Maeve Hind who has been co-facilitating the program alongside artist Emmi Boyle. “We are super excited to have local sewist Becky Swainson of Gather + Make on hand to help guide participants.”

Art Not Shame would like to offer their gratitude to Guelph Neighbourhood Support Coalition for providing space for this wonderful project and the Guelph Civic Museum, for providing space and funding for the program. The quilt will be housed in Art Not Shame’s new community arts hub, as a representation of the community members who will use the space and a physical symbol of inclusivity. The quilt will also be included in an exhibition at the Guelph Civic Museum.

No experience is necessary and this is open to folks of all ages (children are welcome with their grown-up). Registration is welcome but not required and participants are encouraged to come to one or more sessions as convenient to them.
