Defence and special teams contribute to win over Carleton

OTTAWA - The Guelph Gryphons used a smorgasbord of ways to score points Sunday as they beat the Carleton Ravens 37-20 for their first win of the season.

A.J. Allen and Jared Beeksma each returned an interception for a touchdown, quarterback Theo Landers ran one in from a yard out and for the second straight week Clark Barnes returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown, this one 106 yards.

Eric Stranz booted three field goals to round out the scoring.

The Gryphons led 20-17 at the half.

The Guelph offence struggled for the second straight week, totalling just 278 in total yards. Quarterback Theo Landers was 10 of 17 passing for 135 yards.

Leading rusher for the U of G was Kaine Stevenson, with 55 yards on 21 carries. Top receiver was Jordan Terrio who had 100 yards on five catches.

Guelph will host the York Lions on Saturday at Alumni Stadium. Game time is 1 p.m
