Joan Clegg passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at Caressant Care in Fergus.

Joan Clegg led a rich and varied life, leaving behind a legacy of love, adventure, and dedication. Born in Waterdown on December 21, 1932, she embarked on a journey that touched the lives of many.

Her marriage to Gordon Murray Clegg spanned over 68 years, a testament to enduring love and commitment. Together, they weathered life's storms and celebrated its joys. Joan's family meant everything to her, and she cherished her daughter Barbara Gibbons and son-in-law Kirk Maltby. Though predeceased by her daughter Carole and son Doug, their memory remained dear to her heart.

Joan's professional journey was marked by diligence and skill. Armed with a secretarial degree from Business College, she served as a legal secretary and lent her expertise to various schools and Hart Chemical over the years. Her tenure at the University of Guelph's geography department was a testament to her versatility and dedication. Even in retirement, Joan continued to contribute, assisting students and professors with their papers.

Beyond her career, Joan embraced adventure with her husband Gordon. From 1982 to 1993, they embarked on a thrilling journey, learning to fly and obtaining their pilot's licenses. Their airborne escapades allowed them to explore Ontario's skies and create cherished memories together.

Joan's love for life extended to her hobbies and interests. An avid bridge player, she relished the mental challenge and camaraderie the game offered. She also shared her passion for dance, teaching line dancing for years at the Seniors Centre in Guelph. Also Joan was a tap dancer in a show group in performances at the Centre for some years.

The Clegg couple's love for nature and relaxation led them to enjoy over three decades of cottage life, immersing themselves in the tranquility of Ontario's landscapes. Even as they settled into Fairway Lane in 2012 for a more accessible home, their adventurous spirit remained undiminished.

Joan's stroke in November 2023 marked a challenging chapter, but her indomitable spirit continued to shine through. Though she may have left this world on May 4th, 2024, Joan Clegg's legacy of love, resilience, and adventure will continue to inspire all who knew her.
