With weapons drawn, police took a man into custody in Downtown Guelph following a “possible firearm” call on Thursday morning.

Bystander video of the arrest shows a police officer standing with a wide stance on the sidewalk along Wyndham Street North, with their hands out in front of them and something pointed at a person lying face-down.

Additional officers quickly arrive and can be seen hopping out of police vehicles to join in the arrest.

The arrest was made following a call from a downtown business about a person with a “possible firearm,” explained Guelph police spokesperson Scott Tracey. That call came in at 10:31 a.m. and the suspect was located and arrested nearby about three minutes later.

An imitation firearm was recovered, Tracey noted.
