Homeowner foils break and enter

On March 4, 2020, at 9:01 p.m., a resident was alerted to an intruder at their house located near the downtown core of the City of Guelph by security cameras outside their home. An adult male had attempted to gain entry to the house before entering a shed in the backyard. The resident confronted the male with a flashlight and he fled the area on foot.

Police flooded the area and a K9 unit was deployed. The male’s backpack was soon located in a nearby backyard and the male was ultimately found out front of a nearby residence as he was attempting to get in to a taxi. He was subsequently arrested. A search incident to arrest revealed that the male was in possession of numerous toys, videos game and an iPad.

On March 5, at 2:37 a.m. another resident from the area contacted police and reported that their residence had been entered with various items taken. Many of these items matched the items that had just been found on the male.

A 21 year old Guelph male has been charged with:

  • Break And Enter
  • Trespass By Night
  • Break, Enter And Commit
  • Fail To Comply With Judicial release

He was held in custody pending a bail hearing on March 5.
