Stolen vehicle investigation leads to numerous charges

A Guelph resident lent his vehicle to an adult male for servicing and it was agreed that the vehicle would be returned as soon as the work was completed

On Dec. 7, 2019, a Guelph resident lent his vehicle to an adult male for servicing and it was agreed that the vehicle would be returned as soon as the work was completed.

On Feb. 13, 2020, it was reported to the Guelph Police Service that the male now refused to return the vehicle as a result of outstanding money owed for the repairs.

Further investigation revealed that this male was currently wanted as he failed to attend multiple court dates in regards to the following charges dating back to June 30, 2019:

  • Theft Under $5,000 x2
  • Possession Of Stolen Goods Under $5,000
  • Breach Of Probation Order x6
  • Theft Of Credit Card
  • Fraud Under $5,000 
  • Fraud Over $5,000

On March 2nd, 2020, at 11:58 a.m., police found the male at a residence located near the intersection of Silvercreek Parkway North and Paisley Road in the City of Guelph, and he was subsequently arrested.

A 40 year old Guelph male has been additionally charged with:

  • Motor Vehicle Theft
  • Breach Probation
  • Fail To Appear In Court
  • Fail To Re-Attend Court

He will appear in court on April 7.
