Suspended driver allegedly caught using someone else's licence

(TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH-ERAMOSA, ON) - On Feb. 21, 2020, at approximately 3:00 p.m. the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting R.I.D.E. spot checks on the Woolwich-Guelph Townline and Speedvale Avenue West in Guelph-Eramosa Township.  Officers investigated the driver of a sedan that entered into the checkpoint.

Police requested that the driver produce their driver's licence and vehicle documents. The driver produced a valid Ontario driver's licence that belonged to another person and alleged that it was them. The driver was placed under arrest.

Investigation revealed the driver's true identity and confirmed that they were suspended from driving.

As a result, Michaele MAHARY, 24-years-old of Guelph has been charged with Obstruct Peace Officer and Identity Theft contrary to the Criminal Code and Drive While Under Suspension contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph on February 21, 2020.
