Two armed robberies in two days leads to slew of charges

A Guelph man has been charged following robberies of cigarettes and Hydromorphone pills

On March 3, 2020, at 3:19 p.m., an adult male committed an armed robbery at a store located near the intersection of Gordon Street and Kortright Road West in the City Of Guelph. The male brandished a black handgun and demanded the clerk place cigarettes in a garbage bag. He then fled the area on foot with 30 packs of cigarettes (valued at approximately $500).

On March 4, at 4:10 p.m., the male committed another armed robbery at a store located near the intersection of Harvard Road and Gordon Street. The male provided a note to a store employee demanding OxyContin pills and indicating he had a gun. He also showed the employee a black handgun that was tucked into his waistband. He then fled the area on foot after being provided with a bottle containing 100 Hydromorphone pills (valued at approximately $1,000).

At 5:23 p.m., police located the male walking near the intersection of Edinburgh Road South and Kortright Road West, wearing clothing that matched the ones worn during the most recent robbery. He was subsequently arrested.

At 11:34 p.m., police executed a search warrant at the male’s residence and recovered numerous items linking the male to the robberies including:

  • Black imitation handgun
  • Garbage bag containing multiple unopened packs of cigarettes
  • Clothing matching the description from both robberies

A 22 year old Guelph male has been charged with:

  • Robbery With A Firearm x2
  • Disguise With Intent x2
  • Weapons Dangerous x2
  • Point Firearm
  • Breach Of Probation x2

He was held in custody pending a bail hearing on March 5.
