GUELPH MARLIN AQUATIC CLUB

The Guelph Marlin Aquatic Club (GMAC) sent five qualified swimmers to Ontario Swimming Championships (OSC) this past weekend, held at the Toronto Pan AM Pool in Scarborough. Swimmers raced against many of the fastest swimmers in Ontario with many celebrating their last meet for the season until a return in the fall.
Stellar results were had by all athletes with all seeing personal bests in some of their top events as they challenged themselves to qualify for the next level of meet. Matthew Marsella, 15, Julian Twist, 14, and Jenna Walters, 16, all placed in the top three across varying over the weekend.
Jenna Walters in particular, broke two GMAC Top ten records in the 100 Free and 200 Free taking down records achieved more than ten years ago. “I am very proud of my accomplishments this past weekend. I was able to reach goals that I have been working towards all season, and it was an amazing chance to represent the Guelph Marlins with my teammates at a provincial swim meet”.
Notably, Matthew Marsella, rose to the occasion, and achieved two more Canadian Jr Championship qualifying times in the 400 Free and 400 IM.
“Hard work and dedication are key ingredients for success in any endeavour, including swimming. Achievements like these not only reflect positively on the individual swimmers but also on the entire team and the support system behind them. It's important to recognize and celebrate of our athlete’s accomplishments as they serve as inspiration for others and reinforce the value of commitment and determination. Our role as coaches is to guide and mentor our athletes and support their pursuit of goals and dreams.” said Laura Nicholls, GMAC’s Director of Age Group & Development, and two-time Olympian.
Looking ahead to the final race weekend for the season August 2nd – 6th Canadian Jr Championships in Toronto where qualified GMAC athletes, Ali K, Jenna W, Julian T and Matthew M will compete against the best across Canada.
