When it comes to properly maintaining our vehicles in the winter we’ve all been guilty of procrastination.

We see the engine light warning us of a problem in one of our vehicle systems, we hear that unsettling noise or feel that wobble we know needs attention. The problem is, winter’s primary fury comes after the holidays when money can be tight and vehicle repairs aren’t always easily affordable. Unfortunately, ignoring issues with our vehicles in the short term can cause bigger issues in the long term.

“Sometimes a little problem can quickly turn into a bigger problem if not properly addressed in a timely manner,” said Vince Klimkosz, owner of the three area locations of Vinnie’s Mr. Fixit. “It can also wind up being a lot more costly.”

Thankfully, there are options for vehicle owners who are faced with an immediate need to spend large sums of money on repairs or who simply want to install upgrades in their car or truck.

“One thing we offer at all three location of Vinnie’s Mr. FixIt is a payment plan,” said Klimkosz. “The payment plan option starts with cost of $500 and can go all the way up to $10,000. It’s an easy plan to get into with no credit checks and no income verification required.”

According to Klimkosz, the payment plans are offered through a financing company called WippyPay.com. Using the current equity of your vehicle as a way to establish your repair credit limit, WippyPay.com allows you to finance the work you want or need done on your vehicle over a period of up to four years. It doesn’t matter if you’re driving a leased vehicle with a loan on it or own your vehicle outright. Applying for the repair payment plan can be done easily and discreetly online. It’s a great option for consumers looking to ensure they’re driving a safely maintained vehicle they may not have otherwise been able to afford.

“It’s like having a credit card for your car,” said Klimkosz. “It helps you spread the cost of your maintenance over a longer period. There is an interest rate charged just like a credit card but it does allow you to get the work done you want.”

Payment plans can be applied to both repairs and maintenance like brakes, snow tires and rims to other cosmetic embellishments on your vehicle.

“Let’s say you want to install a dash cam kit or a remote starter kit,” said Klimkosz. “The payment option provides you with the funds you need.”

Maintaining your used vehicle in optimum fashion is more important than ever given the rising cost of owning a vehicle since the pandemic. Rising new car prices, higher interest rates and higher costs for parts and labour are primary reasons why extending the life of your current vehicle is important.

“Maintaining your older vehicle and keeping it on the road makes a lot more send right now,” said Klimkosz. “I don’t see new vehicle prices coming down for the next three years. The options for buying used cars have also gone up.”

To keep your current vehicle running at maximum efficiency during the winter, Klimkosz suggests focusing on some simple maintenance. For example, ensuring all the lighting is working properly is vital to vehicular safety. Ensuring your heater is working properly to quickly defrost your windows in cold, snowy conditions is important. So too is ensuring your battery charging systems is working. Putting a used battery into an older vehicle can be a way to cut costs given the rising costs of batteries. Additionally, making sure your tires have ample tread and are properly inflated is necessary to allow for proper handling in wintery conditions.
