Structure fire in Erin destroys shed, damages roof, eaves

All occupants of the house were evacuated safely prior to the fire department's arrival

ERIN ‒ Firefighters were dispatched to put out a structure fire on Ninth Line Tuesday evening.

Beginning in an attached shed on the left side of a single-storey family home, the fire eventually overtook the shed and spread to the eaves and roof, the town's fire chief said in a briefing note distributed to media.

All occupants of the house were evacuated safely prior to the fire department's arrival.

According to the release, 35 firefighters attended the scene and quickly brought the shed under control, entering the house to access and extinguish the fire in the attic and adjoining bedrooms.

The house sustained severe damage to the attic and roof structure; with the shed being a total write-off.

The fire was brought under control just before 11 p.m. with one truck and crew remaining on the scene until Enbridge arrived to shut down a leaking gas line at the meter on the adjacent house.

While the fire is currently under investigation by the Erin fire chief, the cause is not suspicious.
