Things will be a little less scary in Mount Forest this Halloween

Conversations are ongoing over who will take on events like a Haunting on Main Street in the future

MOUNT FOREST ‒ Residents expecting a Haunting on Main Street this Halloween may get less than they bargained for.

According to the Mount Forest BIA, the Haunting on Main Street, an annual Halloween event where residents could participate in seasonal activities and trick-or-treat at local businesses, has been postponed indefinitely.

Originally a collaborative effort by the Mount Forest Downtown group and the Mount Forest BIA, Kailyn Cudney, administrative coordinator of the Mount Forest BIA, said this year's event was cancelled because the Mount Forest Downtown group is no longer active.

"Due to these changes, conversations are being had to determine who will be taking on events like the Haunting on Main Street," said Cudney, in an emailed statement. "We are hopeful that this event along with others will continue in 2024."

Since the announcement, several residents have taken to social media asking for the event to return "in some form."

"It was such a huge well-attended event for our downtown core," said one resident in a local Facebook group. "I know many of my kindergartners loved it."

Held for two years, the event attracted over 200 people in its first year.

"It is such a tradition. Kids will be disappointed," commented another resident. "Personally, (it's) a favourite, I love seeing all the great costumes in the daylight."

Finalized updates and events will be shared on the Mount Forest BIA's social media
