Dallas Green, candidate running in Ward 3 in the municipal election.

In their own words, candidates tell us a little bit about themselves and where they stand on the issues. A different ward will be featured each evening this week.

Name: Dallas Green

Occupation: Flight attendant/ First Aid instructor and volunteer

How long have you lived in Guelph? I came to Guelph as a Katimavik volunteer in 1995.

Do you reside in the ward you are running in? No.

Why are you running in this election? The last Ward 3 councillors have not taken homelessness and affordable housing seriously. That have voted against hundreds of new homes in Guelph as well as the "Home for Good" initiative, to help the homeless of Guelph.

What qualifies you to represent your ward? I have proudly served Guelph as a search and rescue volunteer, a medical first response volunteer with St. John Ambulance for 17 years. I have been a volunteer with Red Cross as well as the Transit Advisory Committee.

Why should people vote for you? I will make housing, affordability, safety and creating jobs, my priorities.

What do you see as the main issues facing residents of the ward? I want to make sure that we don't lose Exhibition Park Arena, or any other community assets in Ward 3.

What do you see as the main issues facing residents of Guelph on a broader scale? Rising house prices and rent. Guelph is no longer affordable. We need to build more homes, and bring more jobs to Guelph.

What is the second most important thing you want to see changed in Guelph? We need to keep taxes to the rate of inflation, or even better, to lower them.

What services need to be improved in Guelph? We need to improve our mental health access.

Is Guelph growing too fast, just the right amount, or not fast enough? Just right.

What can be done at the local level about the rising cost of housing? We need to build more houses so that we can drop the prices of ownership and rent.

What can be done locally about the homelessness issue? We need to work with partners such as the "Home for Good" campaign. They already have some great people and plans.

How do we make Guelph an even better city to live in? We need to make it more affordable. Keep young families here. Build for more local jobs.
