Liberal fundraiser Gerry Lougheed Jr. and former Liberal campaign director Patricia Sorbara were both acquitted today in the Sudbury byelection bribery trial.

Lougheed and Sorbara were accused of attempting to bribe Andrew Olivier not to run as a candidate in the February 2015 byelection and instead support then NDP MP Glenn Thibeault.

Justice Howard Borenstein made his decision this afternoon, stating, "Sorbara and Lougheed could not be found guilty of" bribing Olivier not to be a candidate, "nor could they prevent him."
