BRADFORD - An eight-year-old Bradford boy sparked a missing person search after he took a secret trip to the store to shop for a Mother's Day gift.

Just after 12 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, a Bradford woman contacted South Simcoe Police Service to report her young son missing. Police started a missing child investigation and began searching for the boy.

The child was located in good health inside the Bradford Walmart. The boy said he had walked to the store to buy a present for his mother for Mother's Day.

“The child was advised to communicate with an adult relative prior to leaving his home,” said a press release from South Simcoe Police Service.

Police said this is a good reminder for parents to talk to their children about street proofing. With children being out of school and staying home, it's important to revisit personal safety tips.
