A video of the shooting that took place at the downtown transit terminal in Sudbury on April 1 has surfaced on social media.

Jeremy Terry captured video of the incident from inside the terminal.

Terry told Sudbury.com that he saw a man pacing around with knives and officers were calmly telling him to drop the weapons.

"The man let out a possessed kind of yell and charged towards the officers," Terry said.

In the video, you can hear numerous gunshots, as well as the clicking sound a conducted energy weapon makes when deployed, before you see the police rush to detain the man as he lay on the floor of the tranist terminal.

"It happened fast," Terry said. "Definitely crazy for the downtown core."

The 24-year-old man that was shot was sent to hospital for treatment. No word has yet been released on his condition, nor has his name been released. Police have not said what charges the man is facing.

In a press release, the City of Greater Sudbury said, “An individual armed with two knives attempted to gain access to the transit security office, prompting staff to take refuge in a secure area of the facility."

“Greater Sudbury Police Services were called and quickly responded to the incident. A city employee has been taken to hospital with minor injuries, and is in stable condition. No other residents were involved in the incident.”

The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is currently investigating the shooting.

The transit terminal will remain closed during the investigation. Buses continue to operate as usual but the terminal has been temporarily relocated to the CP Rail parking lot on Elgin Street.

The SIU is urging anyone who may have information about this investigation to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529.
