If the weather is right, a day spent fishing on the lake with family and friends can be a relaxing experience. One of the favourite spots in the area is Belwood Lake just outside Fergus.
On a bright, sunny weekend day that had little wind, the lake attracted fishermen who drove an hour or less. Most would go home without having caught anything, but they regaled each other with tales of past adventures. If this sounds like something you’d like to try, the Family Day weekend is one of three annual licence-free family fishing weekends. The other two are during warmer months – Mother’s Day weekend (May 9-10) and Father’s Day weekend (June 20-21).
The typical first week of summer vacations (July 4 to 12) is also a licence-free fishing week.
