For the first time ever, five local candidates in the upcoming federal election will come together for a bicycle ride campaign event, with a conversation to follow.

The Guelph Coalition for Active Transportation (GCAT) has invited candidates for the Green Party, Conservative Party, Liberal Party, NDP and People’s Party of Canada for a bike ride with the public on Sept. 25.

The ride begins at the facade in front of the River Run Centre at 5:45 p.m. and ends at 7 p.m. at the Red Brick Cafe.

Participates and the candidates will then go inside the Red Brick Cafe for conversation, which continues until 8 p.m.

“During the ride, we will utilize current multi-use paths and painted bike lanes,” said a news release from GCAT about the event.

“You will have the opportunity to learn more about cycling in Guelph, your local candidates and their commitment to accelerating funding for active transportation infrastructure,” said the release.

Incumbent Liberal candidate Lloyd Longfield, as well as candidates Mark Paralovos of the People’s Part of Canada, Ashish Sashan for the Conservative Party, Aisha Jahagir for the NDP and the Green Party’s Steve Dyck are invited to participate the event.
