As of Wednesday afternoon, 57 workers have tested positive for COVID-19 at Cargill's meat processing facility on Dunlop Drive so far and 37 of those cases are still active.

The numbers were confirmed by Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health and are up from the 35 confirmed at the facility on Monday.

Danny Williamson, communications specialist at WDG Public Health clarified that all cases are from a single outbreak.

WDG Public Health is recommending that approximately 200 employees at the facility in the affected area of the plant get tested this week.

Currently, 51 employees who haven’t tested positive are in isolation, Williamson said.

WDG Public Health is still awaiting test results from surveillance testing conducted on Monday and Tuesday and are currently contact-tracing all positive cases according to Williamson.

He said last week, WDG Public Health conducted a complete infection prevention and control (IPAC) inspection of the plant.

Cargill and UFCW Locals 175 & 633, the union that represents the workers, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
