The Wellington Catholic District School Board has confirmed two cases – one at St. Joseph Catholic School and one at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic High School.

The cases were confirmed Tuesday and parents/guardians were notified.

In a post on the board web site, the board says that both schools remain open and that one classroom at each of the schools have been closed.

"To protect their privacy, we will not identify the student or staff member that has tested positive for COVID-19," says the board.

"If Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health advises the Wellington Catholic District School Board that a class, cohort or school should be temporarily closed, we will inform the school community immediately," the board said.

A letter sent home to parents of St. Joseph told parents that Public Health advised the class to self-isolate.

"Our building is safe and remains open to staff and students. Custodial staff did a thorough cleaning and disinfecting of the entire school after we were notified, as part of our enhanced cleaning protocol. We will continue to work closely with Public Health and take their direction as they complete their investigation," said the letter from principal Brian Munaro.

An information sheet was sent to parents/guardians of Lourdes students:

"The purpose of this letter is to inform you that one of the students or staff at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Secondary School has tested positive for COVID19. Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health and the school are taking all necessary steps to prevent the further spread of the virus both in the school and in the community," it read.

The fact sheet said Public Health would contact all individuals that had close contact with the person who tested positive and advised parents to monitor and check their children for symptoms.

These are the first two cases reported at Guelph schools.
