NEWS RELEASE
FAMILY AND CHILDREN'S SERVICES OF GUELPH AND WELLINGTON COUNTY

Family and Children’s Services of Guelph and Wellington County (FCSGW) needs the community to know that we continue to remain open to provide services to children, youth and families in our community during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This is a difficult time and FCSGW staff are available to help any family struggling to manage the challenges they are facing as a result of this pandemic. Parents are encouraged to call us if they require parenting support, access to resources, or assistance in managing during this time.

As well, community members are vital in helping to ensure the safety and well-being of children and youth; with schools, daycares, and non-essential workplaces closed children can become invisible and support from the community is needed. A simple phone call or virtual check-in to ensure that families and children are fully cared for and supported can make a big difference. Anyone who knows of a child, youth, or family in need of help or support, or who has concerns about the safety or well-being of a child or youth under 18, is asked to please call us. We can be reached at 519-824-2410 or 1-800-265-8300 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

“Even though most of our staff are working from home,” says Executive Director Sheila Markle, “they are continuing to reach out to the families we work with and are following up on calls from the community. Staff are connecting with families by phone or secure virtual platforms, and are following recommended procedures to reduce the risk of spreading the virus if they need to meet with children and families face to face.”

Our office at 275 Eramosa continues to be open with a small number of staff onsite to offer support.

Markle adds that “the vast majority of the work we do involves supporting parents to care for their kids and helping them to problem solve issues they are experiencing. We are here to support children, youth and families in Guelph and Wellington especially during this very challenging time.”

Family and Children’s Services of Guelph and Wellington County, also known as the Children’s Aid Society, works with families and communities to promote the safety and well-being of children and youth and to support families. It is a charitable organization.
