The Guelph and District Multicultural Festival will not happen this year.

The annual festival was planned for June 12 to June 14 at Riverside Park, but won't happen due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The festival has happened for 33 years in Guelph.

The city has cancelled all events at city facilities until at least July 5.

The festival issued the following statement on Tuesday morning.

"Following advice from Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health to slow the spread of COVID-19, the City of Guelph has cancelled all public events at city-owned facilities through July 5, 2020. As a result, the Guelph and District Multicultural Festival Board has made the difficult decision to cancel our Festival for 2020. We want to thank our partners, sponsors, volunteers, performers and vendors for their ongoing commitment to the Festival. We are happy to announce that the 35th anniversary of the GDMF will be held at Riverside Park from June 11-13, 2021."
