GUELPH ARTS COUNCIL

An auction to help support the arts in Guelph has moved online.

Collector’s Dilemma, an annual auction to raise funds for Guelph Arts Council, was planned as a live event and cancelled due to COVID-19. Now art lovers can bid on 64 works online starting April 16, 2020 at 10 a.m., with bids closing April 30 at 9 p.m.

Thanks to the generosity of local art collectors, an amazing collection of quality artwork, in a range of media, styles, sizes, and values, has been donated. Works include oil, acrylic and watercolour paintings; prints and drawings; wood, glass and textile art; and more. Winning bids in the past ranged from $25 to $850.

“We really wanted to keep this event alive, because artists in all disciplines need support in these challenging times, and Guelph Arts Council wants to keep providing as much help as we can,” says GAC President Aisling O’Flanagan. “It’s a great opportunity to start or augment your art collection with new-to-you treasures at incredible prices, while supporting the arts in and around Guelph.”

Those who purchased tickets to the cancelled event can have the amount converted to a tax-receiptable donation or ask for a refund.

Event volunteer and local artist Nan Hogg says: “We’re hoping people will step up to support the arts by bidding on these beautiful pieces. There’s something for everyone!”

Bidders simply create an account and bid online. Works can be previewed and accounts created immediately. Bidders will be notified of updates on their items throughout the auction period. Winning bidders will be notified after the auction closes and can pay through the auction site. Art will be available for local pick-up when physical-distance recommendations are relaxed.

The arts community is encouraged to follow Guelph Arts on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, and sign-up for GAC e-news for updates on GAC programs, COVID-19 supports and online events.

For more information on the auction please email [email protected].

Due to COVID-19, Guelph Arts Council has closed its office and postponed public programs until further notice. During the closure, GAC staff can be reached at [email protected] (Tuesday – Thursday) or [email protected] (Tuesday – Friday). Phone messages left at 519-836-3280 will be checked daily.
