NEWS RELEASE
DOWNTOWN GUELPH BUSINESS ASSOCIATION
*************************
As COVID-19 spreads around the world and many places become out of bounds, the resilient and creative folk of Downtown Guelph are coming up with new ways to serve their community.

From ramping up their delivery service and dropping off orders, to recreating their spaces on social media, businesses are determined to keep themselves vital in these trying times.

Quarantined and out of beer? Brothers Brewing are offering same day delivery for bottled beer ordered before 5 p.m. And what about a cocktail home delivery subscription service aptly named ‘stir crazy cocktails’ from Gin Mill? Order a mixology starter kit and follow weekly online tutorials to learn from the pros.

As spring approaches and we start to eye those flat-tired bikes in the shed, Speed River Bicycle on Wyndham St will pick up your bike, fix them at the store, and then drop them right back to you.

Coriander, a women’s retail store on Wyndham St, is live streaming the Coriander Social Hour three times a week on FB.  Owner Sarah Harrison said “after we made the difficult decision to close our doors, we knew we needed to keep the wonderful Coriander community engaged and supported. The Coriander Social Hour is a mix of light entertainment, some safe retail therapy from home, and the opportunity for our community members to engage with us online.

People joining our Facebook Live broadcast can expect to see Coriander’s spring fashion and giftware displayed and discussed. We also encourage our viewers to give Shameless Shoutouts to other local businesses who may be affected”.  The Coriander Social Hour meets on the Coriander Facebook page at 3 p.m. on Sundays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

Executive Director of the DGBA, Marty Williams said “the spirit of independent retailers and restaurateurs is alive and well during this crisis. They are keeping people safe -- first and foremost -- but they are also staying connected to the community. The nimble creativity on display is heart-warming, and a solid reminder that pride and passion live large in Downtown Guelph."
