Guelph's Planet Bean locations on Wyndham Street and Grange Road are closed for a few days as a safety precaution after a staff member at the popular coffee shop came in contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19.

The Planet Bean staff member has not shown any symptoms and has had a COVID test, but in the interest of public and staff safety the store has closed until the results of the test come back.

It's an "abundance of caution," the company said on signs posted on the doors of the two locations Monday.

Planet Bean's Bill Barrett said they have notified Public Health and will follow any guidance they offer.

"One of our workers is waiting on a test. They had contact with someone (not affiliated with the business) who has tested positive so we have asked our workers to stay home, now from both our coffee bars, as there was some possibility that their was some other contact. Other actions will be taken at the advice of Public Health," said Barrett.

He added that all COVID safety protocols have been in effect – no unmasked customers inside the coffee bars, hand sanitizing, frequent hand washing and sanitizing by our staff, plexiglass barriers, social distancing, etc.

"We are just being super cautious," Barrett said of the closure.

The locations will reopen once given the all clear.
