The Upper Grand District School Board has confirmed a positive COVID case at June Avenue Public School.

A classroom in the school has been closed as a result but the school remains open.

Public Health does not identify if it was a student or staff member for privacy reasons.

Parents, guardians and staff were notified yesterday and the information was posted on the board's web site.

"As you are aware, Public Health has notified us that an individual in our school has tested positive for COVID-19. As a result, Public Health has directed one class to self-isolate, as part of its established infection prevention and control measures," said a letter sent home Wednesday by principal Jill Woytko.

"The letter we shared with all families from Public Health on September 30th explains what the health unit and school are doing to prevent further spread of the virus in the school and the community.

"We will continue to work closely with Public Health and take their direction as they complete their investigation. Where Public Health determines there was a transmission risk to others in the school, they will perform a risk assessment for any contacts. All students and staff determined to be at high risk of exposure will be directed to isolate and recommended to be tested within their isolation period."

There have been two other cases in UGDSB schools, one in Shelburne and one in Orangeville.

The Wellington Catholic District School Board earlier this week confirmed one case each at St. Joseph Catholic School and Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic High School.

In all cases classrooms were closed but the schools remain open. In the case of the Orangeville school, three classrooms were closed.
