A local brewery says it is honouring the hard work of its employees by making a large donation to the Guelph General Hospital.

On Thursday the Foundation of Guelph General Hospital announced a donation of $100,000 by Sleeman Breweries in support of the Together, We Care campaign.

In a news release, foundation CEO Suzanne Bone called the donation a significant contribution toward the $34 million goal of the campaign and thanked Sleeman, which she called a long-time supporter.

The goal of the Together, We Care campaign campaign is to fund the expansion of both the Emergency Department and Special Care Nursery as well as investing in new patient care equipment and technology.

“Announcing such a wonderfully generous gift is a great way to kick off the New Year,” said Bone in the release.

“Guelph General Hospital plays a vital role in our community and it is our pleasure to come forward to assist our dedicated health care professionals in continuing to provide excellent care with vital new equipment needed,” said John Sleeman, founder and chairman of Sleeman Breweries Ltd. “We believe it is important to ensure the residents of Guelph and surrounding area have access to the best quality service using life-saving equipment.”

Sleeman said the the donation is being made in honour of the brewery’s employees as a celebration of their hard work and dedication.

“We all take great pride in being part of the Guelph community and recognize the role we can all play in keeping our residents safe and healthy,” he said.

Guelph General Hospital is grateful for its corporate partners, especially as the second wave of the pandemic is well underway and there are concerns surrounding increased spread and rising admissions, said president and CEO Marianne Walker in the release.

“Gifts like this enable us to purchase the equipment and technology that helps us save lives and improve health,” said Walker. “We couldn’t do it without our community’s support and we are so appreciative to Sleeman Breweries for helping us provide the highest quality care and experience to our patients.”

In addition to the donation, Sleeman is also sponsoring January’s 50/50 Hospital Lottery for Guelph General Hospital by providing two $500 early bird prizes.

Those who purchase their tickets online at ggh5050.ca before 10:59 a.m. on Jan. 15 will be entered for a chance to win the early bird prizes as well as the grand prize taking place on January 29th.
