You can support local businesses and also have fun while you’re at it for an ideal ‘staycation.’

Wellington County’s Taste Real programme launched a new local food campaign for the month of August and is encouraging locals to explore Wellington County's back roads, shop at farmers’ markets, and uncover local food treasures right in their own backyard.

“We have an excellent home-grown food culture in Wellington County”, said George Bridge, economic development committee chair in a press release.

Farm tours, picnics, and patios are just some of the many food and farm adventures and staycation ideas listed on the Taste Real website to promote The Taste Real Summer campaign.

“While many farms have seen an increase in demand for local food during the pandemic, we know that other businesses, especially in the foodservice sector, are struggling,” said Bridge.

“The Taste Real Summer campaign is a great way to show support for local businesses and an opportunity to discover exciting new spots close to home.”

The public is encouraged to share photos of their outings, purchases, and dishes via social media with hashtag #tasterealsummer.

All photos will be entered to win $200 worth of gift cards to local food restaurants.
