As the University of Guelph confirmed that its winter semester courses mostly through remote and alternative delivery formats, it is also now offering COVID testing for students.

Testing for students only is available at Student Health Services in the J.T. Powell Building on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., plus Tuesday 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

No referral is needed, but students must call ahead to book an appointment.

Those needing a test can also visit the local Public Helath assessment clinic at 400 Southgate Dr.

Testing began being offered on Sept. 21.

"Our priority is to provide testing for those who are symptomatic or have been in close contact with a positive confirmed COVID-19 case. We will do our best to accommodate anyone else who is reasonably worried that they may have been exposed," says a notice on the U of G Health Services web page.

The U of G has confirmed one case on its Guelph campus to date. Another on its campus in Ridgetown.

"If you are concerned that you may have been exposed at an event, keep in mind that it takes on average 5 days to develop infection (up to 14 days) so if you don't have symptoms consider getting tested at least 5 to 7 days after your exposure."

Results will be checked online. Public Health only calls those who test positive.

The U of G also confirmed that the winter semester will see courses offered mostly through remote and alternative delivery formats, the same as the fall semester.

"As in the fall semester, a small percentage of courses will be offered face-to-face. Some courses during the winter semester may also include in-person engagement, in keeping with public health and provincial guidelines. These may move to alternative delivery format, depending on any changes in government or public health directives," they say.
