Royal City School of Ballet and Jazz

Established in 1979 by Patricia McLeod, RCSB follows the RAD syllabus for ballet, ISTD for Modern Jazz and Acrobatic Arts and ADTA for Acro. (See links on our Home page for these organizations).

We have a serious, but non-competitive attitude in our approach to the teaching of dance. Progress only flourishes in a disciplined, yet positive and cheerful atmosphere.

Careers after RCSB. Students from RCSB have gone on to programs at NBS and subsequently the company, RWB school, Dutch National Ballet, Quinte Ballet School, Italia Conti Theatre in England, University of Windsor Theatre, Ryerson University, York University, George Brown Sheridan and more. Others have performed leading roles in major theatres, TV series and independent movies, or pursued careers as dance teachers, dance company administration and physiotherapy.

Many younger students have performed with Ballet Jorgen’s youth touring and local casts and in RCMPI musical productions.

Why choose Royal City School of Ballet and Jazz?

  • Royal City School of Ballet and Jazz is a well-established experienced dance school - 40 years and counting!
  • Teachers are mature and experienced - Students assist only in classes, they do not teach the classes.
  • A full-scale Performance is held every three years enabling RCSB to focus on the learning of the art form of dance.
  • Opportunities for dance examinations with organizations holding a high world-wide standard.
  • Age-appropriate dance movements, music attire and costumes.
  • Live pianist accompaniment.
  • Dance at RCSB is a drop-off activity so that students are not distracted by the presence of parents or siblings.

Parents are invited to observe classes twice yearly during the three week Open Houses in December and May/June. In a Performance year, the Performance supplants the Open House.
