“We need volunteers here, Guelph is I think the number one volunteer city in Canada, and I'm hoping we can stick to that and get a lot of volunteers in here to help us run these games," said Helen Stoumbos, the CEO of Guelph Games. "There's so many different things that we could use a lot of help with."

For athletes, there is also still time left to register for any of the six sports: slow pitch, basketball, 5v5 soccer, pickleball, trail running and grass volleyball. Stoumbos adds a full schedule of the games and events is now available on their website.

“I feel like COVID has shown us how important it is to stay healthy and are games are all about health and wellness and sports for life,” said Stoumbos. "It's just about outdoing yourself and getting out there and pushing yourself a little bit and getting healthy."

Happening July 1 to July 3, Stoumbos said most of the events at The Guelph Games will take place at Exhibition Park, where a basketball court being put up at one of the baseball diamonds and the tennis courts will be converted into pickleball courts.

Besides the sports, a festival will also be run alongside it. Stoumbos mentions the festival is free for anyone to check out.

“We’ll have a stage and lots of family-friendly activities, like three-legged races and different kinds of competitions that families can participate in.”

The event will also feature live musical performances, food trucks, soccer player demonstrations, a basketball game against the Guelph Nighthawks, and more.

“It’s going to be a big festival, we’re bringing the Exhibition back to Exhibition place,” said Stoumbos.

Stoumbos said she and other members of the Guelph Games are excited to execute the games and share their city with other athletes coming from across Ontario.

"We've put a lot of time and effort into it," said Stoumbos about the event. “It should be three days of lots of fun and much needed enjoyment.”
