There were 5,400 people who took advantage of the advance polls on the weekend to cast their ballot in the upcoming municipal election.

That’s 6 percent of eligible voters, said city clerk Stephen O’Brien.

Advance polls were held at various locations on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

It is somewhat difficult to compare that turnout to the 2014 municipal election due to the fact that in 2014 online voting was available in Guelph, both in advance and on election day.

In 2014 there were 2,985 people who voted in person at the advance polls and 12,767 people who voted online in advance.

Total voter turnout in the 2014 election was 43 per cent.

The municipal election takes place Monday, Oct. 22.
