Record numbers show up for lunch at Shelldale Family Gateway fundraiser (11 photos)

In this Helpers feature we visit Shelldale Family Gateway for the sixth annual Winter Warm-Up lunch fundraiser

It was a record turnout this year for the sixth annual Shelldale Family Gateway Winter Warm-Up lunch fundraiser.

“It’s a wonderful turnout, well over 200 people,” said executive director Diana Boal. “We have a lot more corporate sponsors this year as well.”

There was no shortage of staff and volunteers serving up food and selling raffle tickets.

“We have more than 50 volunteers when you add up all the people serving food,” said Boal. “The money we raise will go to our youth and community programs for children 6 to 18 and their families.”

Nearly 30 local restaurants and businesses donated food and silent auction items and there were more than 10 corporate sponsors.

They were still counting the proceeds at the end of the day but fundraising committee member Ali Hoang was confident they surpassed last year’s totals.

“There were about 250 people this year,” said Hoang. “The 50/50 draw brought in $1,332. All together, we definitely exceeded the $9,000 we brought in last year.”
