GuelphToday received the following letter, also sent to members of city council, about Alectra's decision to turn over utility billing to the city.

Dear editor

This is a fine mess. Not too long ago we sold the wholly-owned subsidiary to Alectra and now it drops the billing service.

I thought we were told there would be benefits to the city? I thought we had a seat on the board or some involvement in decision making affecting our city?

The headline should read "Taxpayers to assume water billing services and additional costs."

Will our hydro bills come down to offset the increased cost to the taxpayer?  If no reduction in our hydro costs, what is your estimate of the increase to us?
