GuelphToday received the following open letter from reader Joshua Redwood, who requests Doug Ford rethink some of the lockdown restrictions when it comes to hair salons and barbershops.

Dear Premier Ford,

I am writing to you on the behalf of barbershops and hair salons in my hometown of Guelph and Ontario.

Your government once again has put us in an extended lockdown until June 2, 2021. This has left many businesses in the dark and uncertain of when they can reopen again.

We understand it's not necessary to get our nails done, exfoliators and mani pedis. However, it is considered personal hygiene maintenance to get a haircut. Which I believe we should have been able to get before the third lockdown, you were able to get a haircut, having this knowledge of how soon the next lockdown would be, where many people didn’t get a chance to. It must have been really nice to get a haircut. Before the lockdown you implemented, which has put so many businesses in a terrible position.

So I urge you to allow barbershops and hair salons to reopen with the COVID-19 guidelines that are in place for the big box retailers and other essential businesses in Ontario. Also I would like to see you reassess the essential businesses list as some things like a barbershop or hair salon are essential to personal hygiene.

Sincerely,
Joshua Redwood
