Editor's note: Building new hospitals are a provincial responsibility, not a municipal one.

GuelphToday received the following Letter to the Editor from reader Rick Ferraro concerning a previously published GuelphToday article about hospital wait times:

I read with interest Mark Pare's article in Guelph Today about the average wait times increasing from 6.9 hours to 12 hours in one year. Also, how Guelph is one of the fastest growing communities in Ontario, if not Canada.

So what is one of the biggest priorities that the current city council has bestowed on us?

A new $62 million dollar library. If you get sick, go to the medical section and read about it.

I am NOT anti-library. I use it regularly. However, during these difficult times I do believe that the candidates should be addressing their priorities for Guelph more vociferously.

In my opinion Guelph should set up a planning committee now and work with all interested parties (University of Guelph teaching hospital?) for a new hospital in the south end of Guelph.

It will take several years to get a new hospital, fundraising and organizing should start now.

If Fergus can do it .... so can we.
