LETTER: Some moms would enjoy fishing on Mother's Day

'It doesn't make a woman any less feminine to enjoy the outdoors and these activities, so why shouldn't it be an opportunity for women to try something new for free on their day?'

GuelphToday received the following letter from reader Christina Tunks in response to 'LETTER: Free fishing would be better left to Father's Day' posted on May 13.

Personally, I was excited to see this offered for Mother's Day! Although I have already renewed my three-year license, so I am good to go, I know some of my mom friends would enjoy getting out in nature to fish with the kids and enjoy the day.

I think it's pretty sexist and obnoxious to think that dads and the kids would take off and leave moms to do chores. Why can't moms go fishing (or hunting, for that matter. And yes, I have that license, too) and take the kids while dads either join or stay and do the chores?

It doesn't make a woman any less feminine to enjoy the outdoors and these activities, so why shouldn't it be an opportunity for women to try something new for free on their day?
