GuelphToday received the following letter to the editor from Safia Khan regarding climate change and the role our city can play in mitigating its damages:
Climate change has become the elephant in the room, and Guelph has made strides in addressing it. Nonetheless, I agree that climate change action should be entrenched in the official plan review.
Cities play an immense role in the fight against climate change. Guelph has demonstrated leadership through its commitment to achieving 100 per cent renewable energy and net-zero emissions by 2050.
The amendments to the city's official plan will ensure the community’s vision and policies follow suit. Other jurisdictions, such as Ottawa, have already done this.
