GuelphToday received the following letter from Steve Baldamus regarding Daylight Saving Time:

Now that the days are starting to get longer and our bodies are gradually getting used to the earlier sunrise and later sunset, It is time to consider scrapping Daylight Saving Time, not adopting it year round. Do you really want people to commute to work just after they have woken up, still tired and try to drive in the dark during winter weather?

We are in the Eastern Time Zone for a reason. The very definition of noon is when the sun is at zenith (for the most part). You might as well just put us into the Atlantic time zone instead of messing with the clocks (bad idea, just being sarcastic).

If you want government offices to open 8-4 instead of 9-5, then just do so. Let school boards and businesses make the choice on what their hours would be.
Back in the war years it made sense because we did not have furnaces and air conditioners as we do now.

DST actually is less energy efficient than standard time.

Just keep standard time all year round, and let people and businesses decide what works best for them.

Only the government has the audacity to think they can legislate the sun. What's next? Are you going to order all sundials to be remade so noon is actually at 11 a.m.?

With standard time can you can actually find your direction with an analog watch (as all scouts would know). Switching to permanent DST would also mean reprogramming of so many devices.

Most just let you select DST or Standard time option. If some jurisdictions have year round and some only part of the year, what a mish mash nightmare of confusion that would be across the country, never mind world wide. Bad enough as it is that some start a few weeks earlier than others.

And on a lighter note, we wont mention NFLD with its half hour different time zone.
