GuelphToday received the following letter to the editor from reader Pat Fung in response to a possible 25-cent disposable cup fee in Guelph.

I am writing regarding a possible disposable cup fee.

When Guelph proposed this idea last year I asked, how was this going to do anything?

The businesses would keep the fee and effectively you would be raising the prices of convenience food.

There was no satisfactory reply to my query in any of the ensuing discussions.

Effectively, if Guelph goes ahead with this, Guelph will effectively increase the cost of living in this city with no appreciable benefits.

I would hope that when this comes up for discussion, the Vancouver experience [where the fee has brought complaints and is now under review] will cause you to vote no for the disposable cup fee.
