The inaugural meeting of the Guelph Chapter of 100 Men Who Give a Damn saw a donation of $13,300 donated to Guelph Wellington Women In Crisis.

There were 133 men who signed up and 120 of them showed up Tuesday at the Guelph Armoury to listen to pitches from three charitable organizations: Guelph Wellington Women In Crisis, Wyndham House and Big Brothers/Big Sisters.

Each organization had five minutes to make a pitch to the men, who then broke into groups and voted on the charity they wanted to donate to.

The Guelph chapter is part of a North American-wide movement that sees a group of men commit to meeting four times a year to spend an hour socializing, listening to pitches from three charities, then choosing who gets the donation.

The two unsuccessful charities are eligible to reapply at subsequent meetings.
