GUELPH, ONT. - The Home Depot’s Guelph store has raised $10,450 for Wyndham House through its Orange Door Project fundraising campaign.

Between Sept. 1 and Oct. 9 Home Depot customers supported the campaign by donating $2 in exchange for paper orange doors, with the full $2 benefiting Wyndham House. Wyndham House will use the donations to provide long term transitional housing to homeless youth working towards their high school education.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to be a part of The Orange Door Project,” said Debbie Bentley- Lauzon, Executive Director, Wyndham House. “The Home Depot Canada Foundation is our ally in putting an end to youth homelessness. This partnership allows us to raise funds on a larger scale than what we could do on our own.”

The Orange Door Project was established with the goal of eliminating youth homelessness in Canada. One hundred eighty-two Home Depot Canada stores took part in this year’s campaign by selling paper orange doors in-store, and by rolling up their sleeves to help local charities complete renovation projects.

Across Canada, the 2016 Orange Door Project campaign raised $1.15 million with 100 per cent of donations benefitting youth-serving organizations.

About Wyndham House:

At Wyndham House we strive to provide safe, quality housing for young people who are homeless, facing multiple barriers, and need support to reach their full potential. Our shelter and residential programs place emphasis on access, equity, and inclusion. This approach provides young people not only basic needs, such as housing, nutrition, and support, but also gives them a voice and control over the decision making process that impacts their life and helps them move forward in a constructive and conscious way. Through this inclusive approach, youth are empowered to develop tangible skills, make impactful decisions, and contribute to their community in a positive manner.

While in our programs youth have direct access to case management, skills development, recreational programming, community capacity building activities and other experiential opportunities that enhance their ability to make healthy decisions and bring a greater level of stability to their life.
