35 registered nurses and registered practical nurses with ParaMed Home Health Care in Guelph and surrounding area are the latest health professionals to choose the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) as their united voice in the workplace.
At a vote held Tuesday, some 93 per cent of nurses said OPSEU was the union best able to negotiate enhanced remuneration, improved working conditions and a more secure future.
Lucy Morton, OPSEU chair for Community Health Care Professionals, was very pleased that ParaMed nurses had placed their confidence in OPSEU.
"This is wonderful news for these dedicated professionals," said Morton. "They work hard for their clients, and they deserve a union that will work just as hard for them.
"That has been our track record for thousands of health care professionals around the province, and that is our promise and commitment to the nurses with ParaMed Home Health Care."
Warren (Smokey) Thomas, president of OPSEU, echoed Morton's sentiments.
"Each time new workers join OPSEU is special," said Thomas. "Not only does it demonstrate that the labour movement is alive and well and more necessary than ever. It also makes all of us that much stronger – those who've just joined, as well as those who were already members.
"I'm delighted that these dedicated professionals now belong to the great OPSEU family," Thomas continued. "They'll enjoy the support of over 130,000 workers in every corner of the province. Together, we're bringing positive change for our members and for all working Ontarians.
