Sun shines brightly on fourth annual Big Little Run in support of Big Brothers Big Sisters

GUELPH - It was a beautiful, hot, sunny day in the Guelph Arboretum on Sunday, June 26, for the Big Little Run, a 2.5km walk/5km run fundraising event in support of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Guelph.

More than 140 participants made their way through the trails of the Arboretum in the most well-attended Big Little Run event yet.

For the fourth year in a row, the fundraising event was presented by BrokerLink Insurance in Guelph.

Sarah Cranmer-Byng from Mississauga was first across the line with a time of 19:03.

Claire Couper and Mary Catherine Stewart placed second and third with times of 19:04 and 19:05.

On the men’s side, top finisher was Daniel Finnigan, with a time of 19:05.

Second and third place among men were David Cameron and Jason Gresel, with times of 19:40 and 19:53.

Chip timing for the event was provided by Speed River Timing.

"The 2016 Big Little Run was a fabulous and fun event that surpassed all set organizational goals,” said Executive Director Heather Fowler. “From the number of participants, to secured sponsorships and pledges and donations made in support of Big Brothers Big Sisters, this all supported our efforts to help kids become all that they can be through the power of mentoring."

Through a combination of registration fees, pledges, sponsorships (from BrokerLink, Health Performance Centre, Compusense, Nelson Watson LLP and West End Family Chiropractic) and the silent auction, the Big Little Run raised more than $15,000.

Funds raised will go directly towards quality youth mentoring programs offered by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Guelph.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Guelph is the city’s largest youth mentoring charity, providing more than 600 children with access to a role model, a mentor and a friend.

Established in 1976, the charity facilitates both one-on-one and group based mentoring programs, serving the communities of Guelph, Aberfoyle, Rockwood, Morriston and Puslinch.
