Afterlife Video Game Lounge is holding a silent auction fundraiser on Saturday at its Wyndham Street location after replacing the front door for the third time due to a break in.
The lounge has experienced three after-hours break ins within the last year and are raising $500 to replace funds spent repairing the front door.
When GuelphToday spoke to one of the owners earlier this week, he said they decided not to claim the damages on their insurance, but also didn’t want to take donations directly from their customers.
Some customers have suggested setting up a GoFundMe page or a jar for donations.
‘We're really touched by all of the outreach and support. Every time we get hit by the few trouble makers, Guelph reaches out to remind us of how many amazing people there are in this city,’ said a post on the lounge’s event page for the silent auction.
The owners of Afterlife chose not to take donations directly, the business will instead hold a silent auction on Saturday with items donated by the businesses Afterlife has relationships with.
‘We're not asking for donations or launching a go fund me - we'd rather give something back to everyone that's supporting us so that everyone can win,’ said the post on the lounge’s event page.
The prizes and prize packages will be on display all day Saturday, doors open at noon.
To help with the browsing, Afterlife will be selling $5 pints of beer from StoneHammer Brewing and Wellington Brewery.
Early Saturday morning, Afterlife Video Game Lounge had the glass on one of its front doors smashed and a small float was taken.
The lounge has since installed a metal security gate over the front entrance of its storefront in an attempt to prevent any futher break ins.
