Guelph Transit is installing new reflective signs at its bus stops. The new signs, which replace outdated and mismatched signs, feature the bus stop number, website address and phone number for real-time bus arrival information. The reflective material also makes it easier to see the signs after the sun sets.
“The signs are larger, which makes it easier for our customers and bus drivers to see where the stop is and to read the stop number,” says Jason Simmons, Operations manager at Guelph Transit.
It is costing about $22,000 to produce and install the new signs at Guelph’s 544 bus stops.
The project, which is part of Guelph Transit’s ongoing commitment to improve the customer experience on and off the bus, is funded through the Public Transit Infrastructure Fund.
In March 2017, the governments of Ontario and Canada announced $9,681,491 in funding for five local transit projects:
- Bus replacements
- Fare box replacement
- Bus stop upgrades/shelters
- Transportation Master Plan
- Traffic signal control system upgrade
The City of Guelph is matching overall government funding.
